Betty Wheatbrook

Betty Ann Wheatbrook, 90, of La Porte, IN, passed away on Monday, November 10, 2025, at her daughter's home in Polk City, FL, with her family by her side.

Betty was born on November 13, 1934, in La Porte, IN, to Ervin and Hattie (Dietz) Oman.

On August 12, 1978, in St. Joseph, MI, she married Jimmy Lee Wheatbrook, who preceded her in death on July 18, 2016.

Surviving Betty are her 7 children, Patty (Walter) Conlin of La Porte, Lou Ann (Paul) Lee-Swinton of Devils Elbow, MO, Pamela Reed of Polk City, FL, Cynthia (Dan) Borsellino of Pflugerville, TX, Louis (Daphne) Lee, Jr. of Waynesville, MO, Dennis Lee of Austin, TX, and Scott Lee of La Porte; stepdaughter, Brenda Wheatbrook of Manitou Springs, CO, stepson, David Wheatbrook of Manitou Springs, CO; 20 grandchildren, Walter (Michelle) Conlin, Jr., James (Erin) Conlin, Jami (Michael) Kuhn, Victoria (Tyler) Johnston, Lindsay Butterfield, Catrina Krupa, Corey Luczak, Mitchell (Courtney) Luczak, Joshua Reed, Michael (Roxanne) Borsellino, Leanna Swingler, Joshua (Natasha) Lee, Louis Lee III, William Knoske III, Dakota Knoske, Abigail (Montwell) Moore, Maribeth Neaderhiser, Nathan Lee, Jeremy (Gabrielle) Lee, and Jonathon (Bailee) Lee; 39 great-grandchildren, Avery, Nolan, Ethan, Josalyn, Dillon, Evelyn, Tylor, Isaac, Shayna, Corinna, Justine, Cody, Kyle, Payton, Xena, Athena, Tanner, Andrew, Jackson, Alexia, Alonna, Zoey, Joseph, Rocco, Kendra, Anna, Michael, Evan, Leonidas, Nova, Kaeleb, Audrianna, Josiah, Hailey, Lucas, Adyn, Madalyn, Macy, and Liliana; 4 great, great-grandchildren, Ronald, Thomas, Amara, and Mark; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; stepson, Craig Wheatbrook; son-in-law, Danny Reed; granddaughter, Christina Berentz; great-grandson, Nicholas Berentz; sisters, Mary Mrozek and June Galloway; and brothers, Leonard Dietz, Roger Oman, James Oman, Robert Oman, Eugene Oman, Lloyd Oman, and Glenn Oman.

Betty devoted her life to faith, family, hard work, and simple joys. She worked for many years as a credit manager for Selective Gift Institute in La Porte. A longtime member of La Porte Missionary Church, Betty faithfully served the Lord throughout her life. Her faith shaped everything she did, and she lived it quietly and sincerely-through kindness, generosity, and prayer.

Betty had a wide range of hobbies and talents that brought joy to both her and those around her. She loved quilting, walking, and listening to Christian music. In her youth, Betty was a competitive speed skater, coming in first place. You could always find her at the local roller-skating rink on the weekends. She bowled on local leagues in her younger years and never lost her competitive edge, later trading bowling alleys for "Wii bowling" with family. She enjoyed fishing, traveling, word search puzzles, cards, dice, and working on jigsaw puzzles. A gifted musician, she played both the accordion and the organ. She was also an excellent cook and baker, lovingly preparing meals and treats that became cherished family traditions.

Betty was an avid sports fan who rarely missed a chance to cheer on her beloved Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and Indianapolis Colts. Whether celebrating big wins or tough losses, she followed her teams faithfully, often watching games with her late husband Jim.

Above all else, Betty loved her family deeply. She was a devoted sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great, great-grandmother, and friend. She cherished every moment spent together-family gatherings, summer visits, holidays, and every opportunity she had to hold her numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great, great-grandchildren.

Betty leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, and love. She will be remembered for her strong gentle spirit, her unwavering devotion to the people she cared for, and the joy she brought to every life she touched.

Cremation has taken place in Florida.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Carl Galloway officiating.

A time of visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.
