Beverly Ann (Carlson) Hartman-Hill, age 85, passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at her home in La Porte, IN. Her soul went to Heaven and her earthly body has been donated to Indiana University School of Medicine's Anatomical Education Program.
Beverly was born on May 24, 1940, to William and Dora (Kroll) Carlson at her grandparents' home in Ashkum, IL.
As a young girl, she had perfect attendance for nine years of Sunday School.
On January 10, 1959, Beverly married her high school sweetheart, Fred E. Hartman, at the Presbyterian Church in Cabery, IL. They had 3 children together, Beth Ann (Gaelen) Lehker, Fred Jay (Tammy) Hartman, and Cynthia Marie (Daniel) Zemanek. In 1966, the family moved to Hanna, IN. There, she and Fred taught Sunday School, Bible Studies, and volunteered as Youth Counselors at the Hanna Methodist Church for 8 years. They took 40 youth on annual weekend retreats. Sadly, Fred preceded her in death on March 8, 1992.
Beverly loved to sew, make quilts, create porcelain dolls, and research genealogy, which she did with her granddaughter, Christine Homan.
On November 26, 2005, she married Thomas E. Hill, Jr. at the Hanna United Methodist Church. The first couple years of their marriage, they enjoyed traveling. They both shared the love of quilting and made numerous quilts. They were members of the Loose Threads Quilting Club of Hanna and the Westville Prairie Quilters Club.
In 2006, they transferred their church membership to Door Village United Methodist Church. Over the years, she served in the United Methodist Churches in many capacities including Spiritual Life Director on the district level for three years, Women's Mission Society Group, VBS volunteer, and was known as a prayer warrior.
Beverly is survived by her husband, Thomas; daughter, Beth Ann Lehker; son, Fred Jay (Tammy) Hartman; grandchildren, Nicholas (Jennifer) Peters of Lafayette, Jason Peters of Walkerton, Kevin Day of Greentown, Maggie (Nick) Bohm of Hanna, Christine (Thaddeus Hammock) Homan of North Judson, and Ryan (Judy) Zemanek of Plymouth; great-grandchildren, Lucas, Ethan and Annabel Peters, Emmitt and Quentin Peters, Bryson Day, Abigail, Sarah and Isaac Bohm, and Liam and Piper Hammock; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Dora Carlson; first husband, Fred E. Hartman; daughter, Cynthia Marie Zemanek; grandson, James F. Zemanek; son-in-law, Gaelen P. Lehker; sister, Marcella Landrey; and 2 brothers, Russel and Lyle Carlson.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025, from 12 - 2 p.m. with a Celebration of Life Service at 2 p.m. at Door Village United Methodist Church.
