Retired steel mill worker and part-time farmer D'Andrea Garritano's love of life didn't end with his death. De passed away on August 6, 2024, at the age of 70, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
Born on March 31, 1954, in Gary, IN, to Norman and Irene (Gajewski) Garritano, De was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to De. He loved a quiet evening with family and a glass of spiced rum by the bonfire. He had an uncanny ability to find happiness in his daily chores around the property. Ever eager to lend a helping hand, a man of immense humor and knowledge gained through all his life experiences, De had an enormous heart and cherished every moment spent with his family. His passion for farming, motorcycles, heavy machinery, vacation shenanigans, and unwavering spirit will forever be remembered.
He is survived by his loving wife, Susan; his four children, Ramona Garritano of Geneva, AL, Alisha Garritano of Geneva, AL, Matthew (Lourinda) Garritano of La Porte, and Tara (Brett) Garritano Airy of La Porte; 10 dearly loved grandchildren; 1 dearly loved great-grandchild; sister Nora (Jim) Zale of Las Vegas, NV; brother, Ross Garritano of Indianapolis; as well as beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Rosemary, Joseph, and David Garritano.
A pillar of strength and unconditional love, his absence leaves a void in our hearts.
Cremation has taken place through Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte. A private family service has taken place.
