David F. Porter

April 28, 1945 — June 9, 2026

David F. Porter, 81, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away on June 9, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on April 28, 1945, to Frederick "Fritz" Porter and Marguerite Porter, David lived a life defined by hard work, integrity, and love for those closest to him.

David dedicated many years of his life to Weil-McLain before retiring at the age of 58. After retirement, he remained active in managing Porter Property, taking great pride in the properties he owned and cared for. He was known for treating people fairly and helping others whenever he could.

David was a devoted husband to the love of his life, Georgia Porter. Together they shared 57 years of marriage, building a life filled with love, laughter, and a lifetime of memories.

An avid golfer, David found great joy on the golf course and was especially proud of achieving two holes-in-one. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and a loyal Green Bay Packers fan, faithfully following his teams through the years. Seeing the Cubs win the World Series was a moment he had long hoped to celebrate.

Those who knew David will remember his huge heart and sense of humor. He was a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose wisdom, guidance, steady presence, and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. One of the greatest privileges of David's later years was helping raise his great-granddaughter, Grace, and being part of the woman she would become.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Georgia Porter; his children, Heidi Speidel (Ben), Chris Skivers, and Kim Porter (Bill); his grandchildren, Rick Lewis Jr., Nicole Lewis, Justin Gring, and Jacob Skivers; five great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Holly Skivers, and his parents, Frederick "Fritz" Porter and Marguerite Porter.

A life well lived leaves a lasting mark on the hearts of those left behind. David's legacy lives on in the family he loved, the lives he touched, and the memories that will be cherished forever. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
