Diana L. Mason

Diana L. Mason, 79, of New Buffalo, Michigan, formerly of Chicago, passed away peacefully with family and friends by her side at home on August, 25, 2026.

Diana was born on February 17, 1947, the daughter of Clio and Doris (Thompson) Olsen. She grew up in Petoskey, Michigan, and graduated from Petoskey High School.

Following high school, Diana moved to Chicago, where she made her home for more than 50 years. In 2019, she moved to New Buffalo, Michigan, to be closer to friends and quickly became a part of the community.

Diana had a deep love for nature and animals. She especially enjoyed hiking, spending time outdoors, and watching birds. She shared her home with three beloved birds, each of whom had been her companion for more than 20 years. Over the years, she also had several large Otterhounds, and her love for dogs continued into retirement, when she worked as a dog walker in Chicago.

An avid reader, Diana loved the New Buffalo Township Library and generously gave of her time as a member of the Friends of the New Buffalo Library.

Diana is survived by her siblings, Gary Olsen of Scottville, Michigan, Karen Olsen of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Rocky (Chris) Olsen of Petoskey, Michigan, Russell Olsen of Sedalia, Missouri, and Mark Olsen of Wolverine, Michigan; numerous nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

In keeping with Diana’s wishes, no public services or visitation will be held. Cremation will take place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
