Donald E. Chambers, 74, LaPorte, died at 7:39 p.m. Monday (March 31, 2003) at LaPorte Hospital.
A private family service will be at Bethany Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Dennis Meyer officiating. Cremation has taken place.
There will be no visitation. Cutler Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Mr. Chambers was born May 14, 1928, in Niles, Mich., to Charles and Fredericka (Dommer) Chambers. In 1956, in Angola, Ind., he married Ruth Johnson Howard, who survives in LaPorte.
Survivors also include six sons, Donald (Karlene) Chambers II, Missouri City, Texas, Michael (Trina) Chambers, Daniel (Anita) Chambers, David (Lori) Chambers, all of LaPorte, Rod Chambers, Las Vegas, Nev., and Curt (Carol) Chambers, Rochester, N.Y.; six daughters, Carol (Rick) Hughes, Cheryl (Pat) Rogers, Tina (Ted) Leslie, all of Michigan City, Cindy (Rick) Slater, LaPorte, Trudy (Jim) Lietzan, Mishawaka, Ind., and Carolyn (Jake Williams) Hayes, Chesterton; 32 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Betty (Harold) Tucker, Sherman, Texas.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Roger Chambers and Earl Howard; one daughter, Theresa Masterson; one grandson, Eric Lietzan; one granddaughter, Mary Ann Chambers; one sister, Evalyn Schlundt; and one brother, Richard Chambers.
Mr. Chambers worked for NIPSCO until he retired in 1988.
He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, LaPorte.
