Irma E. Gettinger, 84, LaPorte, died at 10:43 a.m. Sunday (April 13, 2003) at LaPorte Hospital.
A private family service will be held later, with the Rev. Victor Frohne and the Rev. David Sickelka officiating. Interment is in Pine Lake Cemetery. There is no visitation. Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte, is handling the arrangements.
Mrs. Gettinger was born April 7, 1919, in Fort Wayne to Evan and Esther (Fritz) Williams. On Aug. 22, 1943, she married Robert S. Gettinger, who survives.
Survivors include three daughters, Nancy Gettinger Herrback, Atlanta, Maribeth Gettinger Brown, Madison, Wis., and Julie Strubberg, New Haven, Mo.; and 10 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Gail Elliott, one grandchild and two brothers.
Mrs. Gettinger was a teacher for the LaPorte Community School Corp., and a teacher-director for the LaPorte Preschool Project. She was a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School, Indianapolis. She attended Hanover College, where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. She also graduated from Valparaiso University. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, where she was a teacher and pianist for the Sunday school and sang in the choir. She was an associate member of Tri Kappa Sorority, a member of the Women's Literary Society, the Welsh-American Genealogical Society, the LaPorte County and Indiana historical societies and a life member of the Girl Scouts of America.
