James "Jim" Louis Sherwood, 83, of La Porte, IN, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026 at his home, surrounded by family.
Jim was born on August 1, 1942, in Wellsboro, IN, to Wallace and Josephine (Vitoux) Sherwood.
On September 21, 1963, in St. John's Lutheran Church, he married Susan Kalsow who survives. Also surviving are his son, William Sherwood; sister, Carol Lamb; many nieces and nephews; as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Joe Sherwood; and brothers, Chuck, Richard, Bruce, and Edward Sherwood.
Jim was a barber and owner/stylist at Hair Castle in the Marquette Mall. He also was co-owner of Aim Water Treatment. Jim enjoyed many outdoor activities including camping, gardening, pumpkins in the fall, and horses. In his spare time, he enjoyed making beef jerky, of which the family has fond memories of times when his recipe was a bit too spicy!
He was confirmed in the Lutheran Church in 1963. Jim was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, La Porte.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 3, 2026, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Ron Brauer officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.
A time of visitation will be held from 4 - 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital-Memorials Processing, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38106-9959 or to St. John's Lutheran Church, 111 Kingsbury Ave., La Porte, IN 46350.
