Joan Louise Bass

Joan Louise Bass, 67, of La Porte, IN, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Northwest Health La Porte.

Joan was born on January 18, 1958, in Oak Park, IL, to James H. Sr. and Bernice A. Clark, nee Schroedle.

On May 25, 1974, in Forest Park, IL, she married Walter "Wally" P. Bass, who survives. Also surviving are her daughter, Sharon De Le Peña of Chicago, IL; son, Walter J. Bass (Deron Johnson) of Phoenix, AZ; grandson, Adrien De Le Peña of Chicago, IL; and brothers, Phil Clark (Kathleen, deceased) of Florida and James H. Clark, Jr. of Illinois; as well as many nieces and nephews and many more great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert Clark (Marlene); and niece, Janene Clark.

Joan dedicated many years of her life to her work as a secretary, a role she embraced with diligence and grace. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, particularly in watching the timeless charm of The Andy Griffith Show. Joan's heart was especially devoted to the care and adoption of rescue dogs, reflecting her profound compassion and selflessness.

Yet, above all, it was her family that held the deepest place in her heart. Joan cherished every moment spent with her loved ones, creating memories that would last a lifetime. She was particularly blessed to share a close and loving bond with her adored grandson, Adrien, whom she affectionately called her beloved "pumpkin." Their relationship was a testament to the enduring power of love and connection that defined her life.

Cremation will take place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte, with a private family service to be scheduled at a later date.
