Jodell Ann Johanson

Jodell Ann Johanson, 78, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart, Indiana.

Jodell was born on November 16, 1947, in Fargo, North Dakota, to Delward and Beverly (Legler) Berg and grew up with her family in La Porte, Indiana.

On May 7, 1966, Jodell married Gordon Johanson. They were married for 55 years and he preceded her in death. Surviving are their children, Todd (Tami) Johanson of Shelby Township, Michigan and Shannon (Dean) VanSlambrouck of Macomb, Michigan; 4 grandchildren, Breanna (Angelo) Johanson-Giglio, Blake Johanson, Ryan VanSlambrouck, and Leah VanSlambrouck; sister, Diane Walls; brother Douglas Berg; partner, Mike Turnipseed of Hammond, Indiana; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Jodell was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, Roger Berg.

Before his death, Jodell and Gordon traveled the world. She loved visiting foreign countries, with Paris, France as her favorite city.

Jodell was the owner of two antique stores, Uptown Shoppes and As Time Goes By. She enjoyed antiquing, working in her rustic garden, decorating for Christmas, and finding a good bargain. Jodell loved to dance and had a soft spot for all animals, especially dogs. She will be fondly remembered for her love of donuts, cookies and coffee in the morning.

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center in La Porte, Indiana and a Celebration of Life Memorial Gathering will be held from 2 - 6 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, with a service, officiated by Pastor Kit Billings, at 5 p.m. The family requests donations to be sent to Jane Bernard Animal Adoption Center, 2855 West State Road 2, La Porte, Indiana 46350 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
