Joseph E. Kopnicky, 94 years old of La Porte, IN, died Thursday, April 2, 2009 in LaPorte Hospital .
He was born January 11, 1915 in Brownsville, Pennsylvania , Son of the late Joseph & Helen (Kovell) Kopnicky.
He was married on August 13, 1966 to Winnifred (Johnson) Kopnicky who preceded him in death.
Joseph worked as a coal miner in Pennsylvania for 20 years and then for US Steel for 20 years as a Motor Inspector. He had great compassion for the poor. He loved traveling and the outdoors especially camping. He worked with the Boy Scouts and was a member of the Chesterton Moose. .
Surviving are Son, Robert (Karen) Kopnicky of LaPorte, IN; Daughter, Dolores Martin of Perryopolis, PA; Step Daughter, Barbara Johnson Myers of Valparaiso, IN; Sister, Margaret Klamorick of Brownsville, PA; 3 Grandchildren; John Martin, Jessica Kopnicky and Jim Myers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and several brothers and sisters.
Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held in Brownsville, Pennsylvania. Cutler Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
