Larry Lee Brooks, 70, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026.

Larry was born on January 30, 1956, in La Porte, IN, to Edward Lee and Deloris Jean (Zollman) Brooks.

He is survived by his sister, Linda (Phillip) 
Kmitta, stepdaughter, DeAnna (Bruce) Hopper and step-grandchildren, McKenzie Jonas, Sandy Olse, Alecion Olse, Emah Olse, Caleb Kolasa, Alexis Kolasa, Hunter Hopper, and Mariska Hopper.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and stepdaughters, Holly Kolasa and Mandy Olse.

Larry was honored to serve his country in the Army. During his 9 years, he travelled to Korea, Germany and New Zealand. His time in the military created a lifetime interest in guns. Larry loved sharing his stories about military history and his personal experiences.

His favorite life experience was the day he bought his Harley Davidson. Larry had many years of great, joyous memories riding it. He was an avid reader and collected books about military history and trains. He also enjoyed collecting oil lamps and lanterns.

Larry always had a special place in his heart for animals. He had numerous years with his many cats and his dog, Cody, who all kept him company throughout his life. He enjoyed spending time with his good friend Kim. Most of all, Larry's life was enriched by his stepdaughters and his grandchildren whom he loved immensely.

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.

Military honors will be held at 2 p.m. (CT) at Patton Cemetery on Friday, June 12, 2026. A Celebration of Life Gathering will follow from 3- 5 p.m. at the American Legion Hamon Gray Post #82, 228 E. Lincolnway in La Porte.

Memorial contributions may be to the donor's choice.
