Marsha Ann Kenney, 79, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Miller's Health and Rehab in La Porte.
Born on July 21, 1946, in Michigan City, Marsha was the daughter of Melvin and Mary (Amstutz) Yoder. On August 3, 1974, she married the love of her life, Robert D. Kenney.
She is survived by her son, Douglas (Angela) Kenney of La Porte; three beloved granddaughters, Nia, Avery, and Elin, all of La Porte; her brother, Mel Yoder of Florida; sisters, Kathy (Rick) Stiles of Illinois and Diane Monteen of Kansas; and many nieces, nephews, dear friends, and former coworkers who were like family. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and several beloved family members, including brothers-in-law, Jim Monteen and Don Kenney; sister-in-law, Thelma Yoder; and nephew, CJ Yoder.
Marsha began her teaching career in Kokomo in 1968 after earning her bachelor's degree from Manchester College, later completing her master's degree at Indiana University. In 1971, she returned to Michigan City and dedicated her career to teaching Home Economics, with the majority of her years spent at Barker Junior High. She retired in 2005 after touching countless lives with her kindness, patience, and ability.
She was always willing to go the extra mile for her students-whether answering late-night phone calls about dinner recipes or showing someone how to mend a garment for school the next day.
Marsha was an active member of the Michigan City Service League and the Michigan City Christian Church. She loved baking, volunteering, attending church functions, celebrating holidays, and sharing lunches with friends. Marsha had an amazing group of friends and co-workers that never stopped checking in on her. Her greatest joy came from time spent with her granddaughters, who brought her endless pride and happiness.
Marsha was her son's hero and a true fighter until the very end. Her faith, family, and friendships were her greatest blessings, and she will be remembered for her strength, warmth, loyalty and unwavering love.
A family remembrance will be held at a later date.
