Mary Jane Sharp, 92, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025, at her son's home.
Mary was born on August 15, 1932, in Chicago, Illinois to John Joseph and Mary (Jenkins) Meyer.
Surviving are her sons, Paul (Kathy) Mc Gowan of La Porte, James Mc Gowan of Chicago, Illinois and Christopher Mc Gowan of Frankfort, Illinois; grandchildren, Rebecca (Nick) Laurenzana of Sandwich, Illinois, Joseph Mc Gowan of Demotte, Kristina (Jeremy) Robieson of Frankfort, Illinois, and Ryan Northrop of Mokena, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Elijah, Ethan and Ezra Laurenzana, Allison, McKenzie and Wyatt Robieson, and Alyssa and Sophie Northrop; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Nyal Eugene Mc Gowan and James E. Sharp; sister, Elizabeth Meyer; and brothers, John and David Meyer.
Mary worked for AT&T as a phone board assembler. She lived on a farm with her husband, James, in Columbia, Kentucky for 30 years. Mary enjoyed gardening, sewing, and painting. She won awards for her artwork at the State Fair. Her greatest joy was time spent with grandkids and great-grandkids. She loved being known as the "Butterfly Grandma".
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center. A private burial will take place at Cedar Park Cemetery in Calumet Park, Illinois.
A time of visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
