Myrtle Marie Skinner

May 24, 1932 — May 26, 2025

Myrtle Marie Skinner, born May 24, 1932, passed away May 26, 2025, at the age of 93.

With a warm and charming personality, Myrtle enjoyed her friends and meeting new people. Myrtle was a talented artist, painting landscapes of the Texas countryside. These paintings earned many blue ribbons at local talent shows. Her other hobby was spending hours playing the guitar. Enjoying lifelong learning, Myrtle took extra college courses whenever possible.

Myrtle always worked in the medical field, with a career highlight of working as a personal assistant to the famous heart surgeon, Dr. Michael E. Debakey in Houston, TX. Later she was successful with her own transcription company working for doctors in the Houston area.

She was born in Jacksonville, IL, to parents, Harry and Willie (Denney) Allmon. In 1941, her family moved to La Porte where she graduated from Stillwell High School, with a class of only 9 students. Like many families, the move to La Porte was prompted by the good job availability at the Kingsbury Ordinance Plant, during WWII. Myrtle, like many others, worked at the Ordinance Plant after high school.

In 1977, Myrtle married David Skinner of Houston, TX, who preceded her in death by 8 months. Myrtle and David enjoyed over 45 years of marriage, a beautiful testimony of faithfulness.

Myrtle is survived by her daughter, Michele (Quigley) McClendon of Phoenix, AZ; son, Michael Quigley; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lola Barnhart, Blanch Bachmann, and Peg Jordan; and brother, Earnest Allmon. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother.

Final arrangements and cremation are being handled by Angels Cremation and Burial, LLC of Mesa, AZ. A graveside service is planned at Salem Cemetery, at a future date.
