Nancy Ann Williams

Nancy Ann Williams, 83, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at The Elms of Michigan City, surrounded by love and with Lydia Bowen by her side.

Born on April 27, 1943, in South Bend, Indiana, Nancy was the daughter of Edwin "Pete" Woltman and Marge Bruce.

She lived a life defined by strength, perseverance, service to others, and unwavering devotion to family and friends.

On April 26, 1984, in New Carlisle, Indiana, Nancy married the love of her life, Lawrence "Larry" Michael Williams. Together they built a life centered on family, friendship, shared adventures, and steadfast support for those they loved. Larry preceded her in death on October 19, 2016.

Nancy is survived by her stepchildren, John (Suzy) Williams of New Carlisle, Michael Williams of La Porte, Michele (Sue Fink) Dziaba of Mundelein, Illinois, and Lydia Bowen of La Porte. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Madison (Troy) Ruple of Fort Lupton, Colorado; Mason (Emily Gesino) Shreves and Ayden Shreves, both of Mishawaka; and Lucky Post of La Porte.

Nothing brought Nancy greater joy than her grandchildren. She treasured every opportunity to be part of their lives, whether babysitting, cheering from the sidelines, driving them to activities or celebrating their accomplishments. From gymnastics and tennis to football and basketball, Nancy was their biggest supporter. Her love for them was boundless, and they were truly the light of her life. Her encouragement, unwavering support, and unconditional love will remain with them always, reflected in the countless photographs she lovingly captured and the memories they will cherish forever.

Nancy is also survived by her dear friend, Marcia Roberts of La Porte. Nancy's family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Marcia for her steadfast friendship and companionship through every season of Nancy's life. Her kindness, loyalty, and unwavering support were a constant source of comfort, and she was there whenever Nancy needed her most including her final days.

Nancy is also lovingly remembered by her cherished nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly, as well as the many treasured friends who enriched her life over the years. She deeply valued the friendships she cultivated throughout her lifetime, including those formed on the tennis courts, and we can't forget her and Larry's "favorite friends". Her friends brought her tremendous joy, laughter, companionship, and support, and she considered many of them an extension of her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband; and her siblings and in-laws, James (Judith) Woltman, Pat (Tompkins) Barnhart, and Tom Woltman.

A trailblazer in her profession, Nancy proudly served the City of La Porte as a police officer for 20 years with the La Porte Police Department. She made history as the department's first female captain, earning the respect of her colleagues and community through her dedication, leadership, and commitment to public service. She was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

Outside of her career, Nancy found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved soaking up the sun, playing tennis, bicycling, and getting lost in a good book. She embraced life with determination, independence, and a sense of adventure. Those who knew her best will remember her quick wit, playful sense of humor, resilience, and caring heart.

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center in La Porte.

Nancy's family warmly invites relatives and friends to join them in celebrating her life on Saturday, November 7, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center in La Porte. The family looks forward to gathering with those whose lives Nancy touched to share memories, stories, and the joy she brought to so many.

Nancy's family will remember her not only for what she accomplished, but for the love she gave so freely, the example she set through a life of service, and the countless memories she created with those she held dear. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
