Philip J. Paxson Sr., 88, New Carlisle, formerly of Mill Creek, died at 12:40 p.m. Monday (April 14, 2003) at Hamilton Communities.
The funeral is at 1 p.m. Thursday at Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte, with the Rev. Ron Devenport officiating. Burial is in Oak Grove Cemetery, Mill Creek. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. A Masonic memorial service is at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Paxson was born on June 6, 1914, in Bellingham, Wash., to George Mallon and Caroline Elizabeth (Schultz) Paxson. On June 6, 1931, in LaPorte, he married Helen Dadlow, who died Aug. 27, 1983.
Survivors include a son, Philip L. Paxson, LaPorte; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, LeRoy J. Paxson, and one grandson, Mark Alan Paxson.
Mr. Paxson worked at Austenal in LaPorte, retiring in 1977. He was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church, serving as past chairman of the trustees. He also was a former deacon there. He was a member for more than 50 years of Masonic Lodge No. 41 F.&A.M., and the Consistory of South Bend.
