Raymond "Ray" Dean Rheinholtz, 88, of La Porte, IN, passed away on Saturday 27, 2026, at University of Chicago Medical Center in Chicago, IL.
Raymond was born on October 8, 1937, in La Porte, IN, to Harry and Elsie (Sweder) Rheinholtz.
On March 21, 2015, in La Porte, IN, he married Sharron Sturgill who survives. Also surviving are his children, Raymond (Debbie) Rheinholtz, Jr. and Allen Rheinholtz, both of La Porte; 5 grandchildren, Jennifer (Doug) Wiles of La Porte, Rachel (Jeremy) Bradnick of Indianapolis, Raymond Rheinholtz, III of La Porte, Amber (Alex) Eckund of Indianapolis, and Justin Rheinholtz of La Porte; 20 great-grandchildren; stepdaughters, Carri Welter of St. Francis, WI, and Kelly Rosumalski of Oak Creek, WI; sister, Norma (Ray) Ziemet; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Nola Cree Rheinholtz; siblings, Evelyn (Bill) Shuta, Harry (Marion) Rheinholtz, Margery (Emment) Hansen, Marcile (Bill) Malone, Delorer (John) Allen, and Norma (Ray) Ziemet.
Ray served proudly in the US Army attaining the rank of Sergeant and as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. He then went on to work in construction as an electrician. One day while up on an electrical pole, he survived 700 volts of electricity going thru his shoulder and out his knee.
Ray was a member of Local #531 IBEW and La Porte Missionary Church. He also served La Porte County as the county electrical inspector.
Ray built their home, pole barn and pavilion where they held wonderful fish fries for family and friends. The 4th of July was a special gathering time.
He enjoyed traveling to see his family, watching birds from his back porch, hunting with his sons, and landscaping. In his younger years, Ray loved working with his sons on cars, motorcycles and snowmobiles.
Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026, at La Porte Missionary Church with Pastor Carl Galloway officiating.
A time of visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the church. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Pine Lake Cemetery.
