Robert "Bob" J. Smith

Robert "Bob" J. Smith, Sr., 95, of Rolling Prairie, Indiana, passed away on August 16, 2024 at Millers Merry Manor-New Carlisle.

Bob was born on September 21, 1928 in Chicago, IL, to Eugene and Margaret (Crowley) Smith.

On May 4, 1958 in La Porte, IN, he married Jane Ann Fisher, who preceded him in death. Surviving Bob are his 2 sons, Thomas "Tom" (Terilynn) Smith and Robert "Bob" (Judy Holse) Smith, Jr., both of La Porte; 4 granddaughters, Kaitlyn Smith of Grand Ledge, MI, Kristen (Jacob) Paulsen of Dallas, TX, Calleigh (Tyler) Smith Adams of Indianapolis, and Tommilyn Smith of Indianapolis; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; son, Timothy Smith; sister, Mary Hornbeck; and brothers, William and Eugene Smith.

Bob enjoyed farming in the Rolling Prairie area and spending time at Hudson Lake in the summer. During winter, he enjoyed spending his time in Florida. Most importantly, Bob enjoyed spending time with his family.

He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving as a Sergeant First Class during the Korean War. Bob was awarded a Bronze Star for his service.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Burial with Military Honors will follow at New Carlisle Cemetery.

A time of visitation will be held from 4 - 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 and from 9 a .m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
