Robert "Bob" James Tallant, a lifelong resident of La Porte, Indiana, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2023, at the age of 69. Born on June 9, 1953, to William "Jim" and Ruth (Griewank) Tallant, Bob was known for his adventurous spirit and love for life.
Bob is survived by his loving children, Jennifer Tallant of Austin, Texas, and G. Todd Tallant of Union Mills; his brother, William "Butch" Tallant; his niece, Kendra Xidias; his nephews, Craig (Tracey) Gaddy of La Porte, Sky Tauldee, and Gaea Gaddy; his three cherished grandchildren, James, Alex, and April Tallant; and his Rusche cousins from Illinois and Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents, William "Jim" and Ruth (Griewank) Tallant, and his sister, Sara Tallant.
Throughout his life, Bob was a skilled laborer who took pride in his work. Retiring from Aero Metals in La Porte, his dedication to his craft was evident in the quality of his projects and the respect he earned from his colleagues. Bob's strong work ethic and commitment to excellence were an inspiration to those who knew him.
Bob's adventurous nature was evident in his many interests and hobbies. In his youth, he was a ski patrolman, ensuring the safety of others on the slopes while enjoying the thrill of the sport. He also enjoyed musky fishing, playing fast-pitch softball, and ice hockey in South Bend, showcasing his athletic abilities and competitive spirit. Bob's love for the outdoors extended to his passion for gunsmithing, a skill he developed earlier in his life. This unique talent allowed him to combine his appreciation for craftsmanship with his enthusiasm for outdoor pursuits.
Family and friends will fondly remember Bob's zest for life and his ability to make the most of every moment. His adventurous spirit was contagious, inspiring those around him to embrace new experiences and live life to the fullest. Bob's legacy will live on through the memories and stories shared by those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Cremation has been entrusted to Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
A time of visitation, providing an opportunity for loved ones to come together and honor his memory, will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will take place at a later date at Carmel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Bob's name.
Bob's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, but his adventurous spirit and zest for life will continue to inspire and guide us. Rest in peace, Bob, and thank you for the memories and lessons you shared with us all.
