Roberta “Bobi” L. Tennis, 69, of La Porte, Indiana, was called home on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Northwest Health-La Porte.
Bobi was born on August 15, 1956, in Buchanan, MI, to Thomas and Diane (Woodrick) Martell.
On April 4, 1987, in La Porte, Indiana, she married Brad A. Tennis who survives. Also surviving are her children, Anna (Joel) Neary of La Porte and Adam Tennis of Kalamazoo, MI; grandson, Judah Neary; brother, Thomas “Bud” (Pam) Martell of New Carlisle; sister, Lisa (Andy) Mills of La Porte; brother-in-law, Brian (Donna) Tennis of Blue Island, IL; sister-in-law, Vickie Tennis of Crown Point; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister-in-law, Daniel Lee and Mary Martell; sister, Anita Martell; and niece, Ashly Eva Mills.
Bobi graduated from New Prairie High School in 1974. After a period of traveling, she settled in La Porte and built a beautiful life as a stay-at-home mom. When the kids started school, she went from volunteering to PTA president to substitute teacher and then decided to pursue her degree in elementary education. After her graduation from Purdue North Central, Bobi began her professional career as a 4th grade teacher at Handley, Hailmann, and Kingsford Heights, and 5th grade at Kesling Intermediate. Mrs. Tennis retired in 2022 just days before the birth of her grandson, Judah.
Bobi's good friend, Patti Jo Searing, invited her to attend a Sunday service at La Porte First Church of God, and the rest is history. Over the past 30 years, she faithfully served her Lord and Savior as a Sunday school teacher, nursery volunteer, made food for funeral meals, and baked communion bread.
Bobi never met a stranger. She loved smiles, sunshine, and big, tight hugs. Bobi enjoyed reading, crocheting, and gardening, but her favorite thing to do was to walk around Clear Lake with her best friend, Lisa Schreiber. In her retirement, she picked up scrapbooking and quilting with her sister, Lisa and the crew. She loved adventure and was always available for anything, especially Judah, who was her pride and joy!
Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, February 16, 2026, at First Church of God with Pastor Jeff Zigler officiating.
