Ronald "Wayne" Loeffler, 82, of La Porte, IN, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026.
Wayne was born on September 2, 1943, in La Porte, IN, to Walter and Virginia (Sobko) Loeffler.
On May 28, 1966, in La Porte, IN, he married the love of his life, Mary Jane Hilgendorf. They shared a lifetime of memories together until her passing on April 27, 2025. Their love was steady, enduring, and a foundation for the family they built together.
Wayne is survived by his three sons, Jeff (Angie) Loeffler of Buchanan, MI, Ryan (Becky) Loeffler of La Porte, and Corey (Paula) Loeffler of La Porte. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Danika (Matt) Piotrowski, Paige (Jacob) Spence, Aubree Loeffler, Nathan Loeffler, Graysen Loeffler, Charlie Loeffler, and Tyler (Triza) Bailey. He also leaves behind his faithful companion, his dog, Bentley.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife.
Wayne proudly served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve from 1964 to 1970.
Wayne was the owner and operator of Loeffler Construction and took great pride in building not just houses, but homes for families throughout La Porte. His work stands as a lasting legacy.
Wayne was known for his strong will and his unmistakable sense of humor. He was, by all accounts, a proud and stubborn man-usually convinced he was right (and, to be fair, often was). He had a quick wit and a way of saying things exactly how he saw them, whether you were ready to hear it or not. His humor, honesty, and larger-than-life personality made him someone you'll never forget.
He was an avid sports fan who rarely missed a chance to watch Notre Dame football or cheer on the Chicago Cubs, sticking with them through the good seasons and the not-so-good ones. When he wasn't watching a game, Wayne could often be found outside-working in his yard, tending to his garden, woodworking in his shop, or enjoying a round of golf.
Wayne will be remembered for his strength, his work ethic, his witty personality and the laughter he brought to those around him. He loved deeply, lived fully, and left behind a family who will miss him more than words can say.
Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte. Burial, with his beloved wife, will take place at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be directed to First Church of God, La Porte, IN 46350 or to the donor's choice.
