Sandra "Sandy" Kay Dexter-Scott passed away peacefully on June 22, 2025, in Michigan City, Indiana. She will be fondly remembered for her outgoing personality, loyalty to family and friends, and her loving and caring nature.
Sandy was born on March 20th, 1944, in South Bend, Indiana, to Herman L. Adams, Jr. and Lois Irene Adams. She was a lifelong resident of La Porte, Indiana, and graduated from La Porte High School in 1962. After graduation, Sandy worked for and later retired from General Telephone Company, as a field engineer.
Sandy was a good friend to many. She loved cooking and entertaining and was known for her devotion to weekend family gatherings at Pine Lake, which often drew extended family and friends to her home for a delicious meal and fun on the water. Sandy was very artistic and a talented seamstress, who enjoyed making handcrafted gifts for her family and friends. She also loved spending time outside golfing and boating on Pine Lake. Sandy and Craig enjoyed socializing and volunteering at the La Porte Yacht Club.
She spent her retirement years with her late husband, Craig Scott, as snowbirds in Florida. Sandy loved planning themed parties for the neighbors in the park where they lived and going to the beach to hunt for shark teeth and shells. She enjoyed membership in a bowling league, shuffleboard, and tennis. Sandy would sheepishly admit that her bowling, tennis, and golf game could use improvement, but she enjoyed the companionship of friends. She enjoyed traveling with friends and family, being home with her cats, and having a house full of company.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Herman L. Adams, Jr. and Lois Irene Adams; sister, Susan Jane Manns; brother, John Adams; stepdaughter, Julie Dexter; first husband, Harold Dexter; and her second husband, Craig Scott.
She is survived by her stepchildren, Jenny (Todd) Gearheart of La Porte, Indiana, Jill Sacco of Allen, Texas, Robyn Eaton of Westfield, Indiana, and Andrew (Zoe) Scott of Allen, Texas; grandchildren, Truman and Griffin Sacco, Emily and Emmet Eaton, Gabrielle Gearheart, Drew (Kelly) Gearheart, Elizabeth (Ian) Morris, and Carter Scott; niece, Toni Baldwin (Carl) Dufour of Fairview Heights, Illinois; nephews, Warren Shrader Jr. of South Bend, Indiana and Michael (Erin) Adams of Zionsville, Indiana; stepson, Steve Dexter of Denver, Colorado; as well as several great-nieces and nephews.
A Private Graveside Memorial Service will occur at a later date at Pine Lake Cemetery.
