Sandra "Sandy" Faye (Adams) Latimer

December 15, 1942 — March 2, 2021

Sandra "Sandy" Faye Latimer, 78, of Hanna, IN, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 in her home.

She was born in Gary, IN on December 15, 1942, to Douglas and Helen (Maurer) Adams.  Sandy was the oldest of three children.

As a young girl, one of Sandy's past times was visiting the Palace Theatre in downtown Gary.  After high school graduation, she accepted a job at a dime store.   Not long after working at the dime store, Sandy met Kenneth Latimer, Sr., who was from southern Illinois and played in a band.  On their first date, Sandy discovered their birthdays were one day apart and shortly after they were married in a quaint ceremony on September 7, 1963.  Together, they later raised their two children, Ken and Kelly.  Later, Sandy retired from T.P. Orthodontics.

Sandy had a love for baking.  She loved her family and played a significant role in the lives of her 6 grandchildren.  Sandy's grandchildren often accompanied her in the kitchen, where she would teach them to bake her famous chocolate chip cookies, a recipe passed down from her grandmother.  Sandy also loved to crochet.  She utilized her talent for crocheting to gift doilies, handmade Christmas ornaments, and most recently, baby blankets for her two granddaughters as keepsakes.  Sandy enjoyed visiting Blue Chip and Four Wind Casinos, with her husband.

Sandy embraced the best of life and carried her strong-will, kindness, and devotion to her family until the end of hers.  Her family finds peace in knowing while she has parted from them, she has reunited with family and friends who have been waiting patiently to meet again.  As the matriarch and heart of her family, Sandy will be missed beyond measure.

Sandy is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth; her children, Ken (Robin) Latimer Jr. of Hamlet and Kelly (Todd) Long of La Porte; 6 grandchildren, Anthony Garland, Bill (Brandy) Garland, Ken Latimer, Katie (Doug) Liebbe, Kelsie Long, and Joshua Long; 2 great-grandchildren, Madison and DJ; 2 sisters, Sharon Dick and Debi Quiroga; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-laws, Gary Dick, Sr. and Pete Quiroga; niece, Felicia Dick; and nephew, Mark Dick.

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.

Always thinking of others, Sandy requested a private graveside service to be held at Graceland Cemetery in the spring, as she didn't want her family members out in the cold weather.

Sandy's family would like to extend a very special thanks to April, of Dunes Hospice, for her compassion and care of Sandy.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Dunes Hospice, 4711 Evans Avenue, Valparaiso, IN 46383.
