Stephen Mark Purcell

Stephen Mark Purcell, 79, of La Porte, IN, passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2023.

Stephen was born on December 2, 1944 in La Porte, IN, to Frank James and Ferrie Belle (Groves) Purcell.

On June 26, 1973 in Kingsbury, IN, he married Martha Jane Alexander.  Stephen and Martha are now joined together after 50 years of marriage.  He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Andrew) Thompson of La Porte; 2 grandsons, Collin and Preston Thompson of La Porte; 2 brothers-in-law; 6 sisters-in-law; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; sister, Patricia Kuta; nephew, Doug Kuta; 3 brothers-in-law; and 1 sister-in-law.

Stephen was a La Porte High School graduate.  He started college courses, but was called to serve in the United States Army.  Stephen proudly served his country from 1965 to 1967, serving in Vietnam.

After many years, he retired from Roller Coater.

Stephen dearly loved his wife and adored his daughter, Jennifer.  His grandsons, Collin and Preston, were the light of his life.

In his free time, he loved to visit the casino and watch college sports and the Cubs.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dunes Hospice and all the special people in their lives.  Stephen's daughter, Jennifer, expresses a heartfelt "I'm truly thankful".

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at Salvation Army of La Porte.

A time of visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
