Vern K. Schoof, 86, of La Porte, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2021 at his home.
Vern was born on December 3, 1934 in Union Mills, IN, to William J. and Daisey May (Giesler) Schoof.
On May 19, 1962, he married Lorraine Laverne Hubner who preceded him in death. Surviving Vern are his sons, Glen Schoof of La Porte and Douglas (Donna) Schoof of Woodridge, IL; 3 grandchildren, Levi Schoof of La Porte, Brittany Schoof of La Porte, and Dan (Vicki) Huemmer of Willowbrook, IL; 1 great-granddaughter, Veronica Huemmer; 2 sisters, Evelyn and Bernadine; many nieces and nephews; and 3 special cats, Midnight, Fuzzball, and Sebrina.
He was preceded by his parents; son, Matthew Schoof; 3 brothers, Richard, Willard, and William Schoof; and 5 sisters, Irene, Marcela, Louise, Joann, and Agnes.
Vern was a butcher for many years. He enjoyed gardening and working on his fish pond. Vern was often found tinkering in his garage.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Cremation will follow the service.
A time of visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until the time of the service on Sunday at the funeral home.
Due to the recent Governor's Order, anyone attending the visitation and/or service is required to wear a mask and practice social distancing of six-feet. Also, we are limited to 25 people in the building at any given time. We kindly ask for your patience as we oversee these mandated guidelines.
