Waine Dayton, 87, of Kingsford Heights, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Northwest Health-La Porte surrounded by his family.
Waine was born on March 22, 1938, in Bell City, Missouri to Curtis Ira and Dixie Marie (Brown) Dayton.
On July 4, 1957, in Terre Haute, IN, he was married for 68 years to the love of his life, Dorothy Zollinger, who survives. Also surviving are his 3 daughters, Tina Herbst, Natalie (Lewis) Mahoney and Diana (Fred) Fuller; 7 grandchildren, Jeremy Herbst, Patrick (Kristen) Fuller, Alison (Joe) Travis, Christopher Fuller, Julie (Josh) Thompson, Hannah (Geoff) Safirt, and Erin Mahoney; 11 great-grandchildren, Madilyn, Alayna and Macy Herbst, Sadie Safirt, Benjamin Fuller, Samuel Safirt, Rebekah Travis, Brooklyn Fuller, Daniel Safirt, Brayden Fuller, and Wesley Safirt; siblings, Mattie Vaughn, Dorothy Swalls, Rita Jessup, and Brenda Bedwell; many nieces and nephews; and beloved dog and companion, Goldie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, James Herbst; and siblings, Blanche Corey, Mae Nash, William "Bill" Dayton, and Velma Samms.
Waine served proudly as an aircraft electrician in the US Air Force. He had a long career as a journeyman electrician. A long-time resident of Kingsford Heights, Waine owned and operated The Burger Barn Restaurant for many years with his wife. He served as Town Board President and was a member of the Lighthouse Assembly of God.
Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte. A private family service will take place at a later date.
