William Scott Reed

William S. Reed passed away at the age of 76, June 26, 2024, at his home.

William was born in La Porte to Harold and Virginia (Knoll) Reed on January 24, 1948. Along with his parents; a sister, Rosemary; and brother, David; preceded him in death.

In 1986, Bill married Barbara Fox. Surviving are his wife; son, Andrew; daughter, Brooke (Stephen); stepson, Aron (Lisa) Droege; and 3 grandchildren.

Bill graduated from La Porte High School in 1966 and attended Ball State University on a tennis scholarship. He taught Art at Kesling Middle School for over 30 years.

Tennis was Bill's life! He taught himself tennis, living a block away from the Civic Tennis Courts. At the age of 18, he started the La Porte Park and Recreation Tennis Program, where he was the director for 51 years. In 1999, the tennis courts at Kesling Park were named the "Bill Reed Tennis Complex". Bill was the Boys Head Tennis Coach for 22 years and the Girls Head Tennis Coach for 20 years. In 2000, Bill was inducted into the Indiana Coaches Hall of Fame. Later, in 2017, Bill's greatest honor was being inducted into The Norman Hubner Athletic Hall of Fame.

Bill enjoyed working in the yard, being a White Sox, Blackhawks, and Bears fan, and the second love of his life, his dog, Shadow! He also found great enjoyment in watching the birds outside his home.

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Gathering will be held from 2 - 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
