William "Bill" H. Edlen, aged 76, of Michigan City, Indiana, departed this life peacefully at his home on December 29, 2023. Born in Louisville, Kentucky, on October 10, 1947, to the late Frank and Mildred Marie (Feldkamp) Edlen, William was a beacon of strength and joy to his family and friends. In his youth, he was affectionately known as Willie, but as he matured, he embraced the name Bill, by which many came to know and love him.
Bill's legacy is carried on by his devoted children, Keli (Mike) Siddall and Chad Edlen; his cherished grandchildren, Kelsey (Alex Schlagel) Siddall, Kyle (Paige) Siddall, Cody Siddall, Austin Edlen, and Elizabeth Edlen; and his adored great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Mary (James) Powers, Wanda (James) Mallon, Carolyn Wilke, Clarence (Sandra) Edlen, James (Sheila) Edlen, Ollie Edlen, and John Edlen, along with a host of nieces and nephews who will miss his guidance and humor. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Bonnie Hartman, and his great-grandson, Liam Alexander Schlagel, whom he held dear.
Bill's service to his country was marked by his time in the US Army, where he was stationed in Germany. His professional life included 25 years as a dedicated crane operator at Midwest Steel, followed by a fulfilling retirement as a technician for Adams Remco. Bill's work ethic was as strong as his commitment to his country and his family.
A man of many interests, Bill had a passion for classic cars that knew no bounds. He spent countless hours restoring, fixing, flipping, and collecting these timeless beauties. His love for the game of golf was matched by his enjoyment of socializing with friends, whether on the green or elsewhere. Bill's stubbornness was legendary, and he was known for engaging in "Politically Correct" conversations that showcased his wit and often left others exasperated but smiling. Despite his tenacity in debate, Bill's heart was always softest when it came to his grandchildren, for whom his love was boundless.
A Celebration of Life Service with Military Honors for Bill will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2024, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Friends and family are welcome to gather for visitation from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Following the service, cremation will take place. Memorial donations may be made to the family c/o Keli Siddall, 2900 Monroe Street, La Porte, IN 46350.
