Evelyn S. (Stegall) Leffew

September 21, 1929 — April 12, 2020

Evelyn S. Leffew, 90, of La Porte, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2020 at Fountainview Terrace, La Porte.

Evelyn was born on September 21, 1929 in Harriman, TN, to William Floyd and Tennie Belle (McGaha) Stegall.

On July 15, 1949 in Harriman, TN, she married Lawrence Leffew who preceded her in death.  Surviving are her children, Jacqueline (Bob)  Murnane of La Porte, Rhonda (Jeff Ash) Leffew of La Porte, Patricia (Jim Toth) Leffew of Michigan City, Karen (Don) Wood of Albuquerque, NM, and Joy (Wayne) Whitney of Port St. Lucie, FL;  12 grandchildren, Adam (Kara) Murnane, Jennifer (Jim) Wright, Lisa Roberts, Tracy Renae', Jason Murnane, Joanna (Eddy) Krown, Rodney Leffew, Amy (Dan Harrah) Young, Jeremy Wood, Christina Wood, Taylor Whitney, and Scott Whitney; 17 great-grandchildren, Justice, Jules, Jurzie, and Jude Krown, Ashley, Austin, and Autumn Roberts, Alexis, MaKayla, Melody, and Layla Murnane, Colin, Kyle and Han Wright, Megan (Matt) Nussbaum, and Laney and Ben King; sister, Pauline Stegall Clowers; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded by her parents and siblings, Garret "Pappy" Stegall, George Stegall, Clarence Stegall, John "Red" Stegall, Millard "Bug" Stegall, Betty Stegall, and Ruby Stegall Nelson.

Evelyn was a laborer for 32 years at Jefferson Smurfit and Boise Cascade.  She retired in 1995.  Evelyn enjoyed teaching Sunday School, gardening, and watching sports.  She enjoyed watching Slicer High School baseball at Schreiber Field.  Evelyn loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She also enjoyed all family gatherings.  Evelyn was a member of La Porte Assembly of God.

Due to guidelines established by the State of Indiana in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private family visitation will be held.  Burial will follow at Pine Lake Cemetery.  A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
