Flora J. Ahlgrim, 90, of La Porte, died at 5:40 a.m., Thursday, November 19 at Brentwood Assisted Living Facility.
Flora was born February 21, 1930, in Goshen, Indiana to Glen and Mamie (Miller) Holderbaum.
In 1943, during WWII, the family moved to La Porte for job opportunities. Flora's father, Glen, worked at the Ordinance Plant in Kingsbury and Flora started working at the age of 14 in a beauty shop in downtown La Porte. She also worked at New York Blower in the 60's before becoming a full time mother and homemaker.
On July 18, 1964, she married Edward W. Ahlgrim at St. Paul United Church of Christ in La Porte, who survives. A faithful servant of God, she was a very active member of St. Paul until it closed c.2012.
Preceding her in death are her parents; sister, Mary Tarnow; brothers-in-laws, Harold Matteson and Richard Lighthall; and daughter-in-law, Rebecah Moyer.
Surviving are her two sons, David Moyer of Three Oaks, MI and Kevin (Joyce) Ahlgrim of La Porte; daughter, Christine (James) Harper of Tucson, AZ; several grandchildren, Michael Moyer of Sarasota, FL, Kyle (Andrea) Ahlgrim of La Porte, Stephanie Pietrzak of La Porte, Tyler Ahlgrim of La Porte, David (Sydney) Pietrzak of La Porte, Dylan Moyer of Three Oaks, MI, and Aaron Moyer of Three Oaks, MI; two sisters, Nellie (Robert) Zinkel of Homewood, IL, and Janet Matteson of Las Cruces, NM; sister-in-law, Arlene Lighthall of Del Mar, CA; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center in La Porte. Her final resting place will be in Patton Cemetery in La Porte. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
