Margaretta Ann (Nell) Pawlak

December 12, 1943 — September 20, 2021

Margaretta "Margie" Ann Pawlak, 77, of Michigan City, peacefully went home, with her loving husband and three children by her side, on Monday, September 20, 2021 at Franciscan Health Michigan City.

Margie was born on December 12, 1943 in La Porte, IN, to Robert E. and Betty Jane (Magley) Nell.

On August 5, 1961, she married Fred G. Pawlak, who survives.  Also surviving are her children, Sherri (Craig) Mosley, Jeff (Susan) Pawlak, and Amy (David) Porter, all of La Porte; 6 grandsons, Joshua Mosley of La Porte, Justin (Jessica) Mosley of La Porte, Christian (Jordan) Porter of La Porte, Luke Porter of  La Porte, Alec Pawlak of Davenport, IA, and Brady Pawlak of La Porte; 2 great-grandchildren, Cooper and Zoe Mosley; 2 sisters, Jane (James) Clouser of Michigan City and Mary Rajski of Granger; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded by her parents and brother, Robert Nell, Jr.

Margie was a member of La Porte Assembly of God and loved Jesus with all her heart.  She looked forward to attending church on Sundays and was usually the last to leave because she loved to interact with her church family.  She loved to talk!

Margie and her husband celebrated 60 years of marriage.  Throughout their marriage, they were blessed to travel the country and serve on a mission trip to Poland.  When their children were young, Margie and Fred enjoyed camping and summer vacations as a family.  In their later years, Margie and Fred enjoyed their annual trips to Upper Michigan and Mackinac Island.  Through Margie's commitment to Fred and her enjoyment of time spent with him, their children were shown how to be a Christian spouse and parent.  Margie and Fred were inseparable.

Family was Margie's priority.  Her 6 grandsons and 2 great-grandchildren were the highlight of her days.  Margie valued spending time with all of them and encouraged their interest by attending their events.  She found joy in supporting them.

Margie enjoyed cooking and decorating her home for holiday family dinners.  She was an excellent seamstress as she had an eye for detail.  Margie enjoyed scrapbooking, crafting, antique shopping, decorating inside and outside her home, and shopping at Hobby Lobby!

Margie made handmade cards, which were often mailed to senior citizens.  She also created and delivered meals to those in need.  Margie and Fred served those in their church by transporting others to church services and events.  Through her serving of others, she taught her family the value of caring for the aging and lonely.  Margie truly had a servant's heart, which was also displayed through her dessert donations to PAX Center.

Margie loved children and lovingly babysat, when called upon, for 65 years.  For 11 years, she was a teacher's assistant at Michigan City Christian School.  Margie enjoyed teaching Sunday School and coordinating the " Basics" clothing and household goods for those in need.  Although she had a love of serving others, she was most comfortable being a supportive wife and homemaker.

Margie shared her faith and, in recent years, shared her story of God's healing and faithfulness, to anyone who would listen.  She demonstrated grace and love even during her most challenging times.  Margie was beyond grateful to those that came to visit, prayed for her, shared communion, and brought meals to her and Fred.  To her family, she was the strongest woman ever and an example to everyone of a life well lived!
