Phillip "Phil" R. Liverman

Phillip "Phil" R. Liverman, 75, of La Porte, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Northwest Health - La Porte.

Phil was born on July 26, 1945 in Michigan City, IN, to the late Phillip Ray Liverman and Dorothy (Kahn) Liverman-Ciulewicz.  His memory and legacy will live on through his beloved family and friends.

On November 9th,1968 Phil married Barbara (Westphal) Liverman in Michigan City, Indiana who survives. They renewed their wedding vows on their 50th Wedding Anniversary, on November 8, 2018 with a wonderful ceremony and celebration with family and friends.

Phil is survived by one daughter, Leslie Liverman; three sons, Phillip (Fabiola) Liverman, Patrick Liverman, and Brandon (Tiphanie) Liverman; 7 grandchildren, Taylor Liverman, Britney Liverman, Nekko Liverman, Dominic Snook, Makayla Chorpenning, Kaitlyn McDemont, and Jonathan Carrillo McDermont; 1 brother, James Liverman; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Phil was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving through multiple tours in Vietnam from 1966-1969.  He served in both the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions during this time as an Airborne/Army Ranger.  Phil also served in the Long-Range Patrol/Reconnaissance 20th Infantry Regiment, performing surveillance/scouting duties behind enemy lines. At the time of his death, Phil was the most highly decorated veteran of the Vietnam campaign in La Porte county.

Post Vietnam, Phil served in the U.S. Army Reserves with the Special Forces/Green Berets. He was employed with Midwest/National Steel in Portage, IN for 33 years before retiring in 2003. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and trapper for most of his life and greatly enjoyed the outdoors. Phil was a fan of the Chicago Bears and Notre Dame football, attending many games with his sons throughout the years.

A Celebration of Life Service with Full Military Honors will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Josh Kahn officiating.  Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Mill Creek.

A time of visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Due to the recent Governor's Order, anyone attending the visitation and/or service is required to wear a mask and practice social distancing of six feet.  Also, we are limited to 25 people in the building at any given time.  We kindly ask for your patience as we oversee these mandated guidelines.
